CMA working on inclusion of Capital Markets in the Secondary School Curriculum
CMA is working closely with the Curriculum Development Centre in the Ministry of Education and Sports to influence the current syllabus in order to include a component of financial and capital markets through subjects such as commerce and economics and the newly introduced one, Entrepreneurship.
The inclusion of capital markets studies in the ‘O’ level curriculum, which is currently under review, and later in the ‘A’ level curriculum will enlighten and broaden the students' understanding and outlook to choose careers that would enable them participate in the capital markets industry in the future. Students would also be in a position to transfer knowledge and information to their parents and local communities.
CMA is targeting the youth as a definitive focus group that will carry the flag for capital markets and establish a platform for the development of capital markets in the future. CMA has establsihed various avenues through which a marked impact on this group would be reached.
The visits to schools and higher institutions to give talks on capital markets and the Secondary Schools Challenge are some of the avenues through which CMA hopes to spread the gospel of capital markets in this direction.
CMA continues to participate in various exhibitions. CMA continually participates in regional & international trade fairs organized by Uganda Manufacturers Association, Private Sector Foundation & Other stake holders. During the exhibitions, CMA staff carry out public education in the localities, including markets, secondary schools and also hold meetings with the business community; and NGOs.
